Multiple injured, including children, after active shooter reported at elementary school in Bend, Oregon

At least two people were hospitalized after an active shooter was reported Thursday at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon, officials said, and the shooter is dead.

There were multiple victims, said Sheila Miller, the communications director for the Bend Police Department. Miller said the injured included children and that at least two people were sent to a local hospital. She said the suspected shooter was dead, but it was not clear who shot them. A press release from the department said they were killed possibly by a bystander.

The conditions of the injured people was not immediately known.

Miller said authorities first received a call about a shot fired into a car outside the school at 12:59 p.m. and arrived at the scene within minutes.

Silver Rail Elementary School was placed on lockdown, and the Bend Police Department set up a reunification point for students' families.

Other schools in the district were also placed on lockdown.

The elementary school has about 450 students and 40 staff members, Miller said.

Bend is located in central Oregon.
