Suspect accused of beating, biting officer previously released on stayed sentence Milwaukee police say the officer has serious injuries Milwaukee police say a 22-year-old man tried to disarm an officer during an arrest, but instead took his magazine from a pouch on his vest and hit him repeatedly with it. The Milwaukee Police Association says the suspect also bit the officer before police took him into custody. Milwaukee police say the officer had serious injuries. The incident began around 1:45 Wednesday afternoon, when police said the driver crashed into a tree near 48th and Hadley Street and ran away from officers. Police arrested the 22-year-old man and referred charges of battery to a police officer and fleeing and eluding police, according to Milwaukee police booking records. 12 News is not naming the man because formal charges for this case haven't been filed. Court records show the 22-year-old previously pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver cocaine and felon in possession of a firearm in a 2024 case. The judge originally sentenced him to five years in prison and five years of extended supervision, but stayed his sentence and gave him six years' probation. MPA president Alex Ayala is outraged the 22-year-old was out on the street. If you have a repeat offender, or somebody that commits an egregious crime, a drug crime, or anything, they belong in prison, Ayala said. They cannot be out there being a menace to, not only the citizens of Milwaukee, terrorizing the community, but also trying to kill my police officers. This is unacceptable. Ayala said the officer is out of the hospital and recovering at home. Police say they also arrested the 19-year-old passenger in the fleeing car. #wisn #crimewatchmilwaukee
