As Brewers fans chase the excitement of postseason baseball, Wisconsin consumer-protection officials are warning them not to let scammers turn a dream ticket into an expensive disappointment.

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says high demand for playoff tickets - especially for sold-out games - creates ideal conditions for criminals selling fake, counterfeit or duplicated tickets.

They're preying on our excitement to be there and wanting to support our team, said Michelle Reinen, administrator of Trade and Consumer Protection at the Wisconsin Division of Trade and Consumer Protection.

Brewers fans eager to secure tickets were met with unexpectedly high prices. In some cases, fans are flying south to Florida to watch the game and save money.

Start with an official ticket source

The safest approach is to purchase tickets directly from the Brewers, the venue or an official box office.

Official sources for Brewers postseason tickets include:

The Brewers ticket office at 414-902-4000

The official MLB Ballpark app

Fans turning to the resale market should use an established platform that offers buyer guarantees. SeatGeek serves as the official fan-to-fan online app. Before checking out, buyers should review the full price, including service charges and other fees that can push the final cost well above the advertised amount, according to DATCP.

Resale tickets for the playoffs can be bought and prices compared on the following sites:

MLB | TICKETMASTER | SEATGEEK | STUBHUB

At American Family Field, the designated Ticket Resale Zone is next to Helfaer Field. Reselling tickets outside designated areas is prohibited.

Pay in a way that offers protection

How a buyer pays can determine whether there is any chance of recovering the money after a scam.
