Rep. Nancy Pelosi and her husband, Paul, have spoken out after he allegedly crashed his convertible into a parked car in Napa County before fleeing the scene.

 Mr. Paul Pelosi has personally apologized to the owner of the vehicle and assured them that he would take responsibility for the damage to their vehicle,  a spokesperson for the Pelosi said in statement to The California Post.

 Speaker Pelosi will not be commenting further on this private matter.

The statement comes as Paul, 86, faces a recommended misdemeanor hit-and-run charge stemming from Friday's crash in Yountville.

According to the Napa County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the 6700 block of Yount Street at about 2:30 p.m. after a witness reported seeing a northbound vehicle slam into the rear of a parked car on the shoulder.

Authorities said the impact caused major damage and forced the parked vehicle's right tire onto the curb.

The witness told 911 dispatchers the driver briefly stopped before pulling away from the scene.

Investigators later located Pelosi on Yountville Cross Road, where his brown convertible had become disabled and was partially blocking the roadway. Officials said the vehicle sustained significant damage to its front right side.
