Eight teams of NYC Crisis Management System staff members and community volunteers will also be deployed at hotspot locations along the parade route and in nearby neighborhoods, Mayor Zohran Mamdani told reporters.

 Throughout the day on Monday, these teams will be active on the ground, conducting outreach, mediating conflicts, responding to crises, and interrupting disputes before they escalate,  Mamdani said.

 They will also deploy mobile trauma units in zones where large crowds gather, move, and disperse to support New Yorkers and connect them to emergency services if needed.

Last year, six people were struck by bullets, including two with gang affiliations, in three separate shootings as the parade was winding down.

There are currently no specific or credible threats against the parade, Mamdani added.

 But for too long, a select few have been mistaking the West Indian Day Parade as an opportunity to commit acts of violence. Over the past few years, we have seen shootings on and around the parade route, endangering innocent people and overshadowing this incredible tradition,  Tisch said.

 I want to be very clear. This year, there will be zero tolerance for violence of any kind. We want everyone to come out and enjoy the celebration safely.
