An e-bike's lithium-ion battery sparked a fire in a Bronx NYCHA apartment Wednesday that killed a man and left four others, all believed to be family members, critically hurt, FDNY officials said. The blaze broke out in the Patterson Houses on Morris Ave. near E. 140th St. in Mott Haven about 12:50 a.m. The victims were pulled from an 11th-floor apartment and rushed by medics to local hospitals. Two men were taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where one died and the other remains in critical condition. A 15-year-old boy is in critical condition at Lincoln Hospital and a 33-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man are in critical condition at Harlem Hospital, police said. It wasn't immediately clear if the e-bike was in the victims' apartment or somewhere nearby when it sparked the blaze. The FDNY has repeatedly warned against the dangers of cheap sub-standard lithium-ion batteries. #nydailynews #crimewatchnewyork
