The shooting happened around 4 p.m. on the westbound exit to Winghaven Boulevard from I-64. O'Fallon Police Department Public Information Officer Caroline Hecker told First Alert 4 that the man who was shot was identified as Luke Joseph Sherman, 35. Robert R. Farek, 48, was later charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond. A man named Rob Farek is listed on the city of Ballwin's Public Works page. The city confirmed to First Alert 4 Farek is a Public Works Superintendent and he has been placed on administrative leave pending a further investigation by the city. Preliminary investigation indicates that an altercation took place between the two drivers on I-64. The two exited and came to a stop on the Winghaven ramp. Evidence and eyewitness statements indicate that Sherman exited the vehicle and was then shot by Farek. In a social media post announcing the charges against Farke, police called the shooting a road rage incident. Original reports stated that Sherman had been shot multiple times. On Wednesday afternoon, Hecker provided an update that he was only shot once. Several people called to report the shooting, including Farek himself, according to police. A gun was recovered at the scene. First responders provided aid to Sherman, but he died at the scene. The shooter was detained, and police took his statement. Police said they also took a statement from an adult who was a passenger in the car of the man killed. That passenger was later identified as a coworker of Sherman. O'Fallon police do not believe the men knew each other. Both men were residents of O'Fallon. #firstalert4 #crimewatchstlouis
