ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to a shooting and an attack that happened in 2022.

James B. Brison, 44, reportedly admitted to shooting his girlfriend in January 2022 after an argument inside a car near the Halls Ferry Circle.

Prosecutors then said that in June 2022, Brison and another man attacked a corrections officer at the City Justice Center. The guard was stabbed in his head, face and arms. The guard also had a broken hand.

Brison pleaded guilty to first-degree domestic assault, unlawful gun possession, possession of a controlled substance, first-degree assault on a special victim, delivery or possession of a weapon at a jail and two counts of armed criminal action. He was sentenced to 16 years total in prison.

Marcus Ausler, 36, was also accused of the attack on the guard, but the case was later dismissed. He is serving a life sentence without parole for a first-degree murder conviction stemming from a 2018 homicide.
