WARREN COUNTY, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Warren County deputies took a man into custody following a pursuit and an officer-involved shooting on Sunday night.

Deputies initially responded to an area near Highway EE and Low Gap Road after a caller reported a suspicious parked vehicle, according to the Warren County Sheriff's Department. The caller told dispatchers that he saw a small U-Haul towing a vehicle, with both cab doors open and a man inside. The caller reported seeing a gun in the vehicle and heard a gunshot.

Deputies later located the vehicle and attempted to pull the driver over. The man fled from police and fired shots at law enforcement as he attempted to escape.

The sheriff's department said that after the U-Haul was pursued throughout Warren County and assistance was received from multiple nearby agencies, law enforcement used spike strips on the U-Haul as it approached Warrenton on Route 47.

The U-Haul came to rest near the First State Community Bank, according to the sheriff's department. The suspect refused to comply with orders to drop the gun and continued firing at law enforcement. Law enforcement shot the suspect, who was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No law enforcement officers were injured.

 Sheriff Kevin Harrison commends the professionalism and coordinated response of all agencies involved,  the sheriff's department said in a statement.  The successful apprehension of the armed suspect without injury to law enforcement officers or members of the public was made possible through the teamwork and restraint demonstrated by responding personnel. 

The Warren County sheriff's office identified the suspect as a 36-year-old from Ohio but did not publish the suspect's name. The suspect told law enforcement that he had been using methamphetamine, had not slept for several days, and believed there were  individuals attempting to harm him. 

The pursuit is under investigation, and the sheriff's office said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
