EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (First Alert 4) -Charges are expected Tuesday against two teenage suspects in a mass shooting Sunday that killed five people and left two others in critical condition in East St. Louis. Prosecutors will also announce whether the suspects will be tried as adults or in juvenile court.

Illinois State Police said the shootings took place across three locations, including Jones Park and the Samuel Gompers public housing complex. An exact time was not disclosed.

Victims identified

The five people killed were identified as Patricia May, 74; Cheri May, 49; Devin May, 24; Quentin Thompson, 21; and Shania Thompson, 25.

Miranda May, who lost three relatives in the shooting, said the loss has been difficult to process.

 I'm taking it day by day, like, it doesn't feel real,  she said.

May described her grandmother, Patricia May, as widely known in the community.

 Everybody knew my granny. Literally. My granny is someone so loved. She's so loved. And it just hurts to see that she was gone like this,  she said.

Victim loved being a father

Chelsey Gatlin, who was married to victim Devin May, remembered her husband as a devoted father and hard worker.

 He loved, loved, loved his daughter. He loved me, but you couldn't say anything about his daughter,  Gatlin said.

 Know that he was a great father, a great person and a great man. Overall, he did what he could with what he had,  she added.

Suspects are juveniles

Two suspects, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old, a boy and a girl, are in custody. One of the suspects is Miranda May's cousin.

Miranda May said of the situation,  It's unfortunate what happened. There's really a loss for words. Nobody can prepare for another family member massacring the rest of your family members. 

Marcus May, the father of the female suspect, lost his mother, sister and nephew in the shooting. He said his daughter  decided what she wanted to do. 

 I can't show her no sympathy. I hate to be like that, especially in this time. But it is what it is,  he said.
