GRANITE CITY, Ill. (First Alert 4) - A 64-year-old man is accused of intentionally hitting a pedestrian with his car near Granite City, Illinois.

Tony Accardi, 64, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery, and fleeing and attempting to elude a peace officer.

Police say the incident happened around 8:45 p.m. on July 13 on Chouteau Place Road, which is in an unincorporated area of Madison County near Granite City.

Authorities allege that Accardi hit a man intentionally with his car and then left the scene. While deputies were on-scene, Accardi allegedly returned in a different car.

Deputies tried to get Accardi to pull over, but he allegedly kept driving, leading them on a chase. Police say Accardi then lost control of the car he was driving and came to a stop. Both cars he drove were towed.

The victim suffered a broken leg and was taken to a hospital, police say.

Accardi is being held at the Madison County Jail, pending a detention hearing.
