ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The man who was convicted of conspiring to have a man killed in St. Louis County in 2011 has been sentenced to prison.

Earlier this year, Michael Grady, 71, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, aiding and abetting murder-for-hire and conspiracy to commit money laundering. He has been sentenced to life in prison.

Prosecutors said Grady conspired with Victoria Rena Williams to have her fiancé, Charles Harris III, killed for an insurance payout. He also reportedly hired the person who killed Harris at his home on Langford Drive on Oct. 5, 2011.

Williams previously pleaded guilty.

Williams said that Grady witnessed an argument between her and Harris a year before the fatal shooting and told her she  shouldn't be going through that.  At Grady's prompting, Williams then called an insurance company to ask if an accidental death policy would pay if someone was killed during a robbery. In August 2010, Williams started the application process for an insurance policy on Harris.

Harris worked for an alarm company and sold suits out of his home. Williams reportedly told Harris that the shooters were interested in buying suits. She then said she backed out of the murder twice, but when she tried again, Grady told her they were too far along, and it could be  bad for you. 

Eventually, Williams received $224,444 from a life insurance company and then got a cashier's check for $110,000 payable to Grady's wife. Williams also received $175,762 from another insurance policy.

Grady's prison sentence will run consecutively to the 226-month sentence he previously received for aiding a large-scale, violent drug conspiracy by trying to determine who was cooperating with investigators and prosecutors.
