le to escape. The letter went on, Her children lost their mother-not only on the day she died, but in every day that has followed. They lost the person who should have been there for their birthdays, graduations, holidays, accomplishments, disappointments, and ordinary moments. They lost the comfort of being able to call her, hear her voice, receive her guidance, or feel her arms around them. Curry wrote about how Williams' murder has continued to impact their family and everyone who loved Williams. Marquisha was not defined by the violence that ended her life. She was a daughter, a mother, a sister, a cousin, and a loved one. She was a whole person with hopes, talents, relationships, and a future. She was loving. She was funny. She was talented. She mattered. The days surrounding Williams' death A few days before Christmas in 2023, Chavis reported her daughter, Williams, missing after Williams did not return home and her calls went straight to voicemail. She was last seen alive on December 18, 2023, in Williams' Jeep while the two were dropping off their children at daycare, school, and Chavis' house. Prosecutors later charged Ivy with killing Williams on or around Dec. 20, 2023, the same day both Williams and Ivy were reported missing. After several days of searching, Ivy was arrested in Racine County, Wisconsin, and detained with charges of endangering safety or use of a dangerous weapon, resisting an officer and attempting to flee police. Ivy was arrested while driving Williams' Jeep, but Williams had still not been found. Chavis told First Alert 4 around the time of her daughter's disappearance that she was told by police that the Jeep's license plate had been pinged in Wisconsin and Chicago before then. Two days after Christmas, on December 27, Ivy was charged with first-degree murder by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. The next day, Williams' body was found in a nature preserve outside of Chicago, according to a report from the Cook County Medical Examiner obtained by First Alert 4. The medical examiner reported the manner of death was homicide, and the cause was strangulation.
