BELLEVILLE, Ill. (First Alert 4) - The Illinois Secretary of State is calling on the Belleville school district to stop using a transportation service involved in a Metro East crash that killed a student. First Alert 4 was the first to report the van was not legal for school transportation. The Secretary of State's office found the driver was not operating with the proper permit and that MVP Transportation, which owned the van, is not registered as a school bus employer with the state of Illinois. The investigation also found that while the district does not have a contract with the company, it paid MVP hundreds of thousands of dollars for transportation services over several years. The district has since stopped using the company. First Alert 4 reached out to district officials following the letter and has not received a response. #firstalert4 #crimewatchstlouis
