ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A Fenton man has been charged with first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action for shooting another man Wednesday night in House Springs, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said.

Matthew Higgins, 34, allegedly shot a man in the head around 10:45 p.m. at a home in the 5000 block of Deana Drive. Police arrived to the home and found a man with a gunshot wound who told police that he was shot by Higgins, who ran into a wooded area afterward.

While police were there, Higgins came out of the woods and gave himself up. He admitted to the shooting. He is being held without bond and is a felon with a prior conviction of armed criminal action.

The man who was shot was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
