ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - St. Louis Mayor Cara Spencer opposes a reality series involving the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. On the St. Louis City meeting agenda on Wednesday was an item about the police department participating in a reality television show for A E. The resolution notes stated that the one-year agreement with Lucky 8 TV LLC would cover an Untitled St. Louis Police Project (wt) and grant the company access to the police department's premises, officers, and personnel. It also would prohibit the company from accessing protected or confidential records. The St. Louis public affairs director would have a near-final episode screening to ensure it is factual, accurate and free of confidential information. At the Wednesday meeting, the decision was made to postpone any votes on the project. Mitch McCoy, Director of Public Affairs and Information for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, noted in the Wednesday meeting that the department had been in talks with Lucky 8 and Producer Dick Wolf for about a month and a half. In a letter obtained by First Alert 4 after Wednesday's meeting, Mayor Spencer shared her objection to the reality show agreement. Mayor Spencer wrote, Our officers do difficult, important work, and I share the goal of helping residents see it. This agreement would not serve that goal. As written, it appears to hand a commercial production company broad access to our department and our residents, permanent ownership of everything it records, and final control over how St. Louis is portrayed. I have five principal concerns. She also stated that the agreement appears to put evidence beyond the reach, invites constitutional violations, offers no protection to residents, has the board surrendering its own authority and has the city and its residents absorbing the costs. #firstalert4 #crimewatchstlouis
