ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Hillsdale Police Officer Marshall Thompson received $1,000 from the Demetrious Johnson Charitable Foundation on Wednesday, weeks after he was filmed being attacked while working his secondary job. It warms my heart to know that, hey, even though something happened, there's still people to know like, hey, we still got your back, Thompson said. The attack The attack was captured on video at around 2:30 a.m. on October 11, while Thompson was working at a QuikTrip on Lusher Road in North County. Two 20-year-old suspects, Shaniya Lewis and Nayonna Griffin, are in custody and face multiple charges, including second-degree assault. The award Thompson received the $1,000 award from the Demetrious Johnson Charitable Foundation at Hillsdale City Hall during a Board of Trustees meeting. This is just to say thank you, just not for what you did on that day, but just for who you are as an officer, foundation president Jim Collins said. Collins said the award also serves as a reminder to think before you act. Officer Thompson had to think the entire time while that incident was happening, Collins said. We want young people to know that you're rewarded for making good choices. Officer reacts to viral video Several days after the attack, Thompson spoke to First Alert 4 about his reactions to the incident, which has since been viewed by millions through social media. My opinion is everybody has a game plan until they get punched in the face, Thompson said. A million things rush through your head. I know people say, oh, they would have shot somebody or they would have did this or did that.' It's just easier to talk about it than when something actually happens and you actually have to do something. Where the money will go Thompson said he plans to use the award money for his child. I'm a dad first. So it's mainly going to go towards taking care of my kid, just like all my other money or most of my money anyway, Thompson said. Thompson said he looks forward to continuing to work at the Hillsdale Police Department and appreciates their support. C #firstalert4 #crimewatchstlouis
