JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Jefferson County and MoDOT officials are working to make road safety changes, as the latest crash on Highway 30 claims the lives of four people. On Saturday night, four people were killed and three others were hurt in a crash on Highway 30 in Jefferson County, just north of Cedar Hill, after a man drove onto the cross-ramp into the opposite lane of traffic, causing a head-on collision. Missouri State Highway Patrol says that last year alone, there were at least 302 crashes on Highway 30 from the Jefferson County and St. Louis County lines down to Cedar Hill. 124 people were injured, and nine people were killed. So far this year, there's been at least 169 crashes, 84 injuries, and five deaths. Some drivers in the area say the section of road is especially confusing at night because there are no painted lines on the road and minimal lighting to help keep people in the right lanes. Kathryn White, who lives near Highway 30, said drivers pass at high speed in the area. We've been out on the road, and people are just zooming in and out and just cutting us off, White said. Driving on it, we don't feel safe. Family of victim speaks out Pam Kary Webb's only son, Chase Austin Webb, was one of the four killed in Saturday night's crash. I wish I could tell him people did love him. I don't think he had a lot of confidence in himself. But I wish he'd know how much we loved him, Webb said. Webb is familiar with the stretch of road where her son died, telling First Alert 4 that there's several issues with the area. It's so dark. There's no lines. There's little reflectors you can't see, Webb said. County, MoDOT respond Monday night, the Jefferson County Council is holding a public hearing to improve safety along Highway 30, with the county having plans to take ownership and maintenance from MoDOT for parts of Highway 30. Jefferson County Councilman Brian Haskins said the county has been talking with MoDOT for years about problems on Highway 30. He says that in recent years, progress is being made to help make the road safer. There's a lot of #firstalert4 #crimewatchstlouis
